What is a Countdown Chain?

A countdown chain is a simple DIY paper chain craft where each loop represents one day left until your big event. Every day, you tear off one link. When you reach the last loop, it’s time to celebrate!

Step-by-Step Instructions: DIY Countdown Chain

1. Choose your countdown length

Decide how many days you’re counting down. For example:

Christmas: 25 days starting December 1st

Graduation: 30 or 60 days before the ceremony

Vacations: However many sleeps until you leave

2. Cut your strips

Each strip should be about 1 inch wide by 6–8 inches long. Cut one strip for each day in your countdown.

3. Write numbers or notes

Number the strips backwards (30, 29, 28…) or add fun prompts like “Do a random act of kindness” or “Share your favorite school memory.”

4. Make the first link

Curl one strip into a circle and secure it with tape, glue, or a stapler.

5. Add the next links

Thread each new strip through the last circle before securing it. Keep going until your chain is complete.

6. Hang it up and enjoy!

Display your countdown chain somewhere visible. Remove one link each day until your big event.
